רֵיקָן, (v. ריקָם) empty. Sabb. 83ᵇ, a. e. מיטלטל מלא ור׳ is movable when filled as well as when empty. Ber. 40ᵃ in the physical world כלי ר׳ מחזיק וכ׳ an empty vessel is receptive, a filled vessel is not; אבל הקב"ה … ר׳ אינו מחזיק not so with the Lord (in the spiritual world): a full vessel (mind) is receptive (of more), an empty one is not; a. fr.—Trnsf. bare of knowledge, ignorant. Cant. R. to IV, 4 (play on רקתך, ib. 3) הר׳ שבשלש … רצוף וכ׳ the least learned in the three rows (of scholars in front of the Sanhedrin) is as stuffed with knowledge as a pomegranate (is full of seeds).
