רָטוּשׁ, (רָטַשׁ; v. רְטַשׁ) an emigrant or fugitive whose estate is abandoned, v. נָטוּשׁ.—Pl. רְטוּשִׁים, רְטוּשִׁין. Tosef. Keth. VIII, 3 אלו הן ר׳ כל שאינו יודע וכ׳ r’ṭushin (in law) are those whose whereabouts is unknown, contrad. to נטושין; Y. ib. IV, 29ᵃ אלו הן נכסי ר׳ כל שהלך אביו וכ׳ estate of r’ṭushin is, if one’s father, or … any of those whom he would be entitled to succeed, have gone abroad &c.; Y. Yeb. XV, 15ᵃ top; B. Mets. 38ᵇ. Ib. 39ᵃ ר׳ דמדעתן r’ṭushin are those who leave (or run away) of their own accord (ref. to Hos. X, 14; differ. in Y. l. c. נטוש זה שיצא לדעת). Arakh. VII, 4 (25ᵇ) (of a field dedicated to the sanctuary) הגיע היובל … נקראת שְׂדֵה ר׳ if the year of jubilee arrives, and it is not redeemed …, it is called a field of the absentees until the next jubilee; הגיע … נקראת רְטוּשֵׁי ר׳ (Bab. ed. רטושה, corr. acc.) if the second jubilee comes, and it is not redeemed, it is called a field of the absentees in the second degree, until the third jubilee; Tosef. ib.
