רַוָּוק, (רוּק; cmp. פָּנוּי) single, bachelor. Kidd. IV, 13 לא ילמד אדם ר׳ סופרים a single man must not be a teacher of primary classes. Ib. 14. Pes. 113ᵃ ר׳ הדר וכ׳ a bachelor that lives in a large city and does not sin. Lev. R. s. 27 (ref. to Job XLI, 3) זה ר׳ הדר וכ׳ this refers to a bachelor (childless man) that dwells in a community and contributes towards the maintenance of teachers of Bible and Mishnah. Tanḥ. Aḥăré, ed. Bub. 15 לעשיר גדול ר׳ וכ׳ like a very rich but unmarried man; having no wife, he has no house; Tanḥ. l. c. 10 וחזק (corr. acc.); Yalk. Ps. 767; a. e.—Pl. רַוָּוקִים, רַוָּוקִין. Kidd. l. c. לא ישנו שני ר׳ וכ׳ two bachelors should not sleep wrapped up in one cloak; Tosef. ib. V, 10. Mekh. Bo, s. 13 וכולן בכורים מר׳ אחרים and they were all firstborn sons of other young men (not the husbands).
