נוֹי, נוֹא m. (נָוָה, נָאָה) 1) beauty, ornament. Kel. XIV, 2 עשאן לנוי (ed. Dehr. לנוֹאי) he attached them for ornamentation. Yeb. 39ᵇ הכונס את יבמתו … לשם נ׳ he who married his deceased brother’s wife (v. יְבָמָה) for her beauty (not with the intention of perpetuating his brother’s name). Y. Maasr. III, end, 51ᵃ לנוֹיָיהּ של חצר to embellish the court. Zeb. 54ᵇ (play on בנוית, I Sam. XIX, 18) עוסקין בנוֹיוֹ של וכ׳ engaged in the embellishment of the world (consulting about building the Temple).
