חָרוּת I, (חרת, sec. r. of חרה, v. חֶרְיָה) dried up by heat, shrunk. Succ. 32ᵃ top ח׳ פסול if the palm-branch is dried up, it is unfit for use; דומה לח׳ if it only looks as if dried up (blackish) &c.—Fem.חֲרוּתָה. Ḥull. III, 2 ח׳ בידי שמים if the animal’s lungs are shrunk (wood-like) through an accident; ib. 55ᵇ ח׳ בידי אדם by violence done to it. Tosef. ib. III, 12 אי זוהי ח׳ וכ׳ what animal is called ḥărutha?—Answ. whose lungs are shrunk.
