חֲרוּפָה f. (v. חָרַף) 1) designated, betrothed. Kidd. 6ᵃ האומר חֲרוּפָתִי וכ׳ if one says to a woman, Be my ḥărufah, she is betrothed, for in Judæa they call the betrothed (אֲרוּסָה) ḥărufah.—Esp. שפחה ח׳ (v. Lev. XIX, 20) a handmaid designated to become the wife of one selected by her master. Gitt. 43ᵃ איזוהי שפחה ח׳ (Ker.
