גָּדַע (b. h.; v. גדד I) to cut, chop, lop off.—Y. Sabb. IV, end, 7ᵃ חריות שגְּדָעָן וכ׳ twigs which one cut off (trimming the date tree) with the intention of using them for &c. (Bab. ib. 50ᵃ גדר).—Part. pass. גָּדוּעַ, f. גְּדוּעָה; pl. גְּדוּעִים, גְּדוּעוֹת. Midr. Till. to Ps. LXXV, end קרני ישראל ג׳ the horns (power) of Israel are lopped off (checked).
    Pi. - גִּידֵּעַ, גִּידַּע . Ib.; Midr. Sam. ch. V, end קרנות שג׳ צדיקו וכ׳ the horns which the Righteous One of the world (the Lord) has lopped.
    Nif. - נִגְדָּע to be lopped, diminished. Cant. R. to III, 7 נ׳ גובה וכ׳ (Var. נגרע, v. גרע) Adam’s high stature was reduced. [V. גָּוַע.]
