שׁוּתָּף, (= משותף; שָׁתַף) associate, partner. Tosef. Snh. VIII, 7 אדם … ש׳ היה עמו וכ׳ Adam was the last created, in order that the heretics might not say, he was God’s associate in his work; Snh. 38ᵃ. Y. B. Bath. III, 14ᵃ bot. ש׳ … כנוטע ברשות if a partner goes in and plants (a portion of the ground), he is considered as one who plants with the owner’s assent, i.e. he cannot claim the cultivated portion as his exclusive property on the ground of undisturbed possession; Bab. B. Bath. 42ᵇ. Ib. ש׳ אין לו חזקה (not שותפות) a partner cannot claim possession (v. חֲזָקָה). Y. Snh.
