פְּשִׁיטָא c. (preced.) 1) explanation, teaching.—Pl. פְּשִׁיטִין. Yalk. Lev. 665 כיון דחסלין מן פְּשִׁיטֵיהוֹן when they had finished their studies; Yalk. Is. 352 מפשוטיהן. —2) plain, self-evident truth; is it not a matter of course? Meg. 3ᵇ, a. fr. פ׳ לי I have no doubt. Y. Pes. VII, 34ᵇ bot. פ׳ דא מילתא וכ׳ this is clear, that &c. Y. Sabb. X, end, 12ᵈ מה דצריכא לר׳ י׳ פ׳ לי׳ וכ׳ what to R. Jeremiah is doubtful, is clear to Isaac ben U. B. Bath. 137ᵃ פ׳ מהו דתימא וכ׳ is not this a matter of course (what need was there to say it)? (Answ.) I might have thought &c. B. Mets. 16ᵃ פ׳ זבנה וכ׳ it is undisputed, if he sold it …, but if he made a present of it (to the robber), there is a difference of opinion &c.; a. v. fr.—Pl. פְּשִׁיטָן. Y. Bets. I, 60ᵇ מילין … פ׳ לכון פ׳ וכ׳ things doubtful to the Rabbis are clear to you; those clear to the Rabbis, are doubtful to you. —3) (fem.) Ps’hiṭa, a small coin.
