פְּשַׁט, (neut. verb) to be stretched forth, reach out. Y. Peah VIII, end, 21ᵇ ידיה דלא פַשְׁטַן מיתן וכ׳ may these hands which did not reach out to give thee, be cut off.
פְּשַׁט, to explain, teach; to deduce. Gen. R. s. 17 הוון יתבין פַּשְטִין וכ׳ he and R. … sat teaching; Lev. R. s. 34. B. Mets. 18ᵇ וקא פשיט רבא דיחזיר and Raba decided that restitution must be made. Kidd. 9ᵇ בתר דבעיא הדר פַּשְׁטָהּ after having raised the question, he met it again himself. Ber. 2ᵇ והדר פשטו לה מברייתא and then they solved the question by deduction from a Boraitha. Hor. 13ᵇ פ׳ גרס ותנא וכ׳ he explained (the subject to himself), and committed it to memory again and again. B. Mets. 90ᵇ פְּשׁוֹט מהא חדא derive from this (Boraitha) one answer to the questions before us.
