עִירוֹנִי, (denom. of עִור II) inhabitant of a country town, provincial. Gen. R. s. 50, end אחד ע׳ ואחד בן המדינה one from a country town and another from a capital. Y. Ned. VII, end, 40ᶜ נראין … בע׳ R. Meïr’s opinion seems acceptable in the case of a provincial (who uses בַּיִת in the sense of the lower rooms, contrad. to עליה). Lev. R. s. 4 משל לע׳ שהיה נשוי וכ׳ like a provincial (commoner) that married a princess; Yalk. Prov. 963 לעירני; a. e.—Pl. עִירוֹנִין, עִירָ׳. Y. Snh.
