עֲבֵירָה, (preced.) transgression, sin. Sot. 3ᵃ (play on עבר Hif., with ref. to ויעבירו, Ex. XXXVI, 6) אדם עובר ע׳ בסתר והקב"ה מכריז וכ׳ man commits a sin in secret, and the Lord causes his exposure in public; ואין ע׳ אלא לשון הכרזה וכ׳ and the word ‘ăberah (cmp. preced.) has the meaning of publication (passing forth) &c. Ib. אין אדם עובר ע׳ אלא אם כן וכ׳ a man does not sin, unless a spirit of insanity has entered into him.
