מַכּוֹשׁ I, (נָכַשׁ) hoe, spud; digging with the spud. B. Bath. 54ᵃ כיון שהכיש בה מ׳ אחד וכ׳ (Ms. R. שנכש בה) as soon as he has inserted the spud once, he has taken possession of the entire field.
