טִלְטֵל (b. h.; Pilp. of טלל, cmp. דלדל) 1) to move, carry, handle. Sabb. III, 6 מְטַלְטְלִין וכ׳ you may handle (on the Sabbath) a new lamp; a. v. fr. —2) to make unsteady, to exile; (with דעת) to confound. Gen. R. s. 39 טַלְטֵל עצמך וכ׳ banish thyself (travel) from place to place. Gen. R. s. 38 (expl. הניעמו, Ps. LIX, 12) טַלְטְלֵימוֹ make them exiles. Y. Peah I, 15ᵈ top (expl. נעו, Prov. V, 6) טי׳ הקב"ה מתן וכ׳ the Lord made unsteady (irregular) the reward of the observants, that they might observe the commands in faith. Num. R. s. 10 (ed. Amst. p. 238ᵃ) שהן מְטַלְטְלִין דעתו וכ׳ they (carnal pleasures) confound man’s judgment (cmp. טָרַף).—Part. pass. מְטוּלְטָל, f. מְטוּלְטֶלֶת. Tanḥ. ed. Bub., Sh’mini 7 והדעת מט׳ and the mind becomes confused.—
    Hithpa. - הִתְטַלְטֵּל, הִיטַּ׳, , Nithpa. נִתְטַלְטֵל, נִיטַּ׳ 1) to be moved, handled; to be made restless. Sabb. l. c. כל הנרות מִטַּלְטְלִין all lamps may be handled. Ib. 35ᵃ מעיין הַמִיטַּלְטֵל a travelling spring (changing its place). Gen. R. s. 39. Sifra Sh’mini ch. VII, Par. 6 מִטַּלְטְלִין במלואם are carried with their contents; Kel. XV, 1 עשויין לִיטַּלְטֵל וכ׳. Yalk. Prov. 964; Midr.
