חָשַׁד חָשַׁד, (cmp. חָשָׁה) [to whisper,] to suspect (cmp. דּוּם a. דִּימָה). Yoma 19ᵇ, a. e. החוֹשֵׁד בכשרים he who entertains a suspicion against worthy men. Ib. חֲשָׁדוּהוּ (ב)צדוקי they suspected him of being a Sadducee. Sabb. 127ᵇ במה חֲשַׁדְתַּנִי whereof did you suspect me?—Ib. 118ᵇ; M. Kat. 18ᵇ מי שחוֹשְׁדִין וכ׳ whom people suspect without cause; a. fr.—Part. pass. חָשׁוּד, f. חֲשׁוּדָה; pl. חֲשׁוּדִים, חֲשׁוּדִין; חֲשׁוּדוֹת. Dem. III, 5, v. חָלַף.
