שׁוֹטִיתָא שׁוֹטִיתָא f. (v. שׁוֹט II) 1) staff. Targ. I Sam. XIV, 27 (Ar. שׁוֹטְיָא); 43. Targ. Jud. VI, 21 (Ar. שוטיא; some ed. שולטיתא). —2) branch, twig. Keth. 17ᵃ אהנייא ליה שׁוֹטִיתֵיה וכ׳ the myrtle branch (with which he used to dance before bridal couples) was in the old man’s favor (that a phenomenon occurred at his funeral), but some said שְׁטוּתֵיה his folly (v. שְׁבִשְׁתָּא); others said שיטתיה, v. שִׁיטְּתָא. Sabb. 77ᵇ ש׳ שטותא the myrtle branch used at weddings is called shoṭitha as being sh’ṭutha (folly). ערכים סמוכים
