קֶרֶשׁ II, ḳeresh, name of a kind of antelope, unicorn. Ḥull. 59ᵇ ק׳ טביא וכ׳ the ḳ. is the gazelle of Be-Ilai (v. טִגְרוֹס). Ib. ק׳ אע"פ שאין לו וכ׳ the ḳ. is permitted, although it has only one horn. Y. Sabb. II, 4ᵈ bot. ק׳ היה שמה וכ׳ it (the taḥash) was named ḳeresh … having one horn. B. Bath. 16ᵇ (ref. to קרן הפוך, Job XLII, 14) שדומה לקרנא דק׳ she had the complexion of the horn of the ḳ.; קרנא דק׳ לקותא היא but this would mean a defect (not a description of beauty).
