עִוֵּר II, (b. h.) to blind; to cause perversion of judgment. Sifré Deut. 144 (ref. to Deut. XVI, 19) כי השוחד יְעַוֵּר שאומר על וכ׳ ‘bribe blindeth’, that means, that (in old age) he will declare unclean what is clean &c.; Yalk. ib. 907; Keth. 105ᵃ (v. Peah VIII, 9); Mekh. Mishp., s. 20 (ref. to Ex. XXIII, 8) יעור עיני חכמים בתורה blinds the judgment of scholars of the Law.
