נַעַל m. (b. h.; preced.) 1) (cmp. Gr. ὑπόδημα) [tied under the foot,] shoe. Yeb. 102ᵃ התורה … נַעֲלוֹ ולא מנעלו the Law (Deut. XXV, 9) says, what is tied to his foot, but not what covers his foot (a full shoe, v. מִנְעוֹל). Sifré Deut. 291 (ref. to Deut. l. c.) נעלו שלו his own shoe; a. e. —2) lock, locking up.—Pl. נְעָלִים.
