נִיצוֹץ c. (נָצַץ) 1) (b. h.) spark, sparkling light. Tanḥ. Vayesheb 1 נ׳ אחד וכ׳ one spark from thy smithy.—Pl. נִיצוֹצוֹת, נִיצוֹצִים, נִיצוֹצִין. Tosef. Yoma II, 3 היו נ׳ יוצאות ממנה sparkling rays proceeded from it (the golden tablet); Yoma 37ᵇ נ׳ יוצאין; Y. ib. III, 41ᵃ top הנ׳ מנתזין; Y. Sot. II, 18ᵃ top הניצוצים וכ׳. Num. R. s. 5, beg. שני נ׳ של אש וכ׳ two sparks of fire &c. Ib. שני נצ׳ מקדמין וכ׳ two sparks preceded them. Y. Ab. Zar. V, end, 45ᵇ (v. לִיבּוּן) צריך שיהא נ׳ וכ׳ it must be so heated that sparks burst forth from it. Tosef. Sabb. VI (VII), 2 נפלו הימנו נ׳ ואמר וכ׳ if snuff falls off the candle, and he says, we shall have guests &c. (v. אֱמוֹרִי). Sabb. III, 6 לקבל נ׳ to receive the snuff; a. fr.— *2) shivers scattering from the broken sledge-hammer. Sabb. 88ᵇ; Snh. 34ᵃ (ref. to Jer. XXIII, 29) מה פטיש זה מתחלק לכמה נ׳ as the sledge-hammer (when shattered by the harder rock) is divided into many shivers (differ. in commentaries). —3) squirtings (of boiling water &c.). Ab. Zar. 76ᵇ מה בולעו נ׳ וכ׳ as the rim of a caldron absorbs forbidden substances through squirtings, so does it emit them again through the squirtings (of the boiling cleansing water, v. גִּיעוּל). Nidd. 13ᵃ נ׳ נתזין וכ׳ drippings (of urine) squirt upon his feet. Yoma 29ᵇ, sq.; a. e. —4) (cmp. Arab. nuḍâḍah) residue. Sabb. 139ᵇ האיכא נ׳ but there is the residue (the last drops percolating through the dregs in emptying liquid from vessel to vessel); נ׳ לבי ר׳ וכ׳ that residue was not cared about in the house of &c.
