כַּשְׁרוּת כַּשְׁרוּת, (כָּשֵׁר) fitness, worthiness, legitimacy. Yeb. 57ᵃ (in Chald. diction) כ׳ מיתוספא בה וכ׳ (by her mother being a native Jewess) has her fitness been increased (so that a priest may marry her) … or has her sanctity also been increased (so as to be subject to the restrictions placed upon a native Jewess, acc. to Deut. XXIII, 2) and she may not eat T’rumah (when married to an impotent); [oth. opin.: כ׳ legal status, Jewish citizenship; קדושה fitness to marry a priest, v. Rashi a. l.].—Kidd. 72ᵇ כל ארצות בחזקת כ׳ וכ׳ the Jewish inhabitants of all countries (outside of Babylonia) are presumed to be of legitimate descent, opp. עִיסָה. Num. R. s. 20 בתחלה הבריות נוהגות בכ׳ formerly people conducted themselves morally, opp. בעֲרָיוֹת. Koh.
