כְּפִיפָה f. (כָּפַף) 1) bending, being bent. Y. Ber. I, 3ᵈ top לך כ׳ unto thee is bending due. Ib. תזקפנו מכְּפִיפָתֵינוּ erect us from our humiliation. Snh. 65ᵃ כְּפִיפַת קומתו bending one’s body (before the idol). Sabb. 104ᵃ (ref. to the shape of certain letters, v. כָּפַף) הוסיף … כ׳ על כְּפִיפָתוֹ the Lord has given thee repeated admonitions to humility, v. מָנוֹד. —2) (v. קְפִיפָה; cmp. Assyr. kuppu, Schr. KAT², p. 582) cage, prison. Keth. 72ᵃ, a. fr. אין אדם דר עם נחש בכ׳ nobody can be expected to dwell in a cage with a serpent, i.e. no man or woman can be compelled to live with an obnoxious consort. Tosef. Dem. III, 9; Y. ib. II, 22ᵈ bot. —3) [muzzle, in gen.] a basket of osier, v. זְמָמָא. Kel. XXVI, 1 כ׳ מצרית a basket made of palm twigs; Sot. II, 1; a. fr.—Y. Yoma VIII, end, 45ᶜ אין … מתוך כ׳ וכ׳ an ass brays only when a basket of carobs is before him, i.e. living in plenty makes haughty, cmp. Ber. 32ᵃ.—Tosef. Kel. B. Kam.
