גִּרְגֵּר

גִּרְגֵּר, (denom. of (denom. of גָּרוֹן, גַּרְגֶּרֶת) to pour down the throat, opp. שתה to set the lips to the vessel. Par. IX, 4; Tosef. ib. IX (VIII), 6.—*Gitt. 89ᵃ גִּירְגְּרָה בשוק if she quaffs outdoors; [Rashi: walks with outstretched neck (גָּרוֹן)].
גִּרְגֵּר, denom. of גַּרְגַּר) to pick single berries. Maasr. II, 6 מְגַרְגֵּר ואוכל he may pick grapes (from the hanging cluster) and eat; ib. III, 9; Y. ib. II, 50ᵃ top.
גִּרְגֵּר, (denom. of גְּרוֹגֶרֶת) to let the olive shrivel (on the tree or in the sun on the roof), to mark out for shrivelling. Ex. R. s. 36 that olive—while it is yet on its tree, מְגַרְגְּרִין אותו they mark it out for shrivelling (in order to use it for the press). Men. VIII, 4 מְגַרְגְּרוֹ בראש הזית he lets it shrivel on the top of the olive tree; מג׳ בראש הגג in the sun on the roof; [for oth. opin. v. Rashi a. l.].—Ib. 86ᵃ מְגרְגְּרוֹ תנן או מְגַלְגְּלוֹ תנן does it read m’garg’ro (he lets it shrivel) or m’galg’lo (he lets it hang until it is fully rounded)?
