גְּבַרְתָּנִית, (v. preced.) powerful, overwhelming. Num. R. s. 7 (ref. to אָנוּשׁ Is. XVII, 11, v. גָּבַר) leprosy is called a strong disease מפני שהיא מכה ג׳ (not הג׳) because it is an overpowering affliction; Lev. R. s. 18 מכה ג׳ ומתשת an overpowering and weakening &c.
