שְׁקוֹף, (שָׁקַף I, v. מַשְׁקוֹף) cross-piece, lintel, arch, arched gateway with posts. Neg. XII, 4; Tosef. ib. VI, 5 כדי ליתן תחת הש׳ as much wood as is required to place under an arch (to keep it in shape); Ib. כדי לעשות סנדל לאחורי הש׳ as much as is required to make ‘a shoe’ (protection) back of the arch.
