שָׁפָן, cony, (rock-badger). Midr. Prov. to XXX, 26 זה מדי כשם שהש׳ יש בו וכ׳ ‘the conies &c.’, this refers to Media, as the cony has the symptoms of cleanness (being a ruminant) and also those of uncleanness &c.; Lev. R. s. 13; Yalk. Prov. 964.
