שָׁלִיחַ, (שָׁלַח) deputy, agent. Gitt. IV, 1. Ib. 62ᵇ ש׳ להולכה, ש׳ לקבלה, v. הוֹלָכָה. Kidd. 41ᵃ הוא עושה ש׳ he (the husband) can appoint a deputy (to hand to her the letter of divorce); היא עושה ש׳ she can depute an agent (to receive the letter of divorce); הש׳ עושה ש׳ the agent may depute an agent. Ib.ᵇ אין העבד נעשה ש׳ וכ׳ a slave cannot be deputed to receive a letter of divorce. Ib. 42ᵇ, a. fr. אין ש׳ לדבר עבירה there is no deputy for an illegal act, i.e. the responsibility for an illegal act cannot be shifted to the employer. Ber.
