שִׁילּוּחַ, sending away, letting go. Sot. 9ᵃ (ref. to Is. XXVII, 8) אין הקב"ה … עד שעת שִׁילּוּחָהּ the Lord does not visit her sins upon a nation until the time comes to send her away (into captivity); אין הקב"ה … שִׁילּוּחוֹ the Lord does not punish a king, until the time comes to drive him away (depose him). Ḥull. XII, 1, a. fr. ש׳ הקן, v. קֵן. Ib. 140ᵃ לש׳ with regard to the duty of letting the mother bird go. Sifra M’tsorʿa, Neg., Par. 1 ש׳ ציפרים letting the birds (of the leper’s sacrifice) fly (Lev. XIV, 7). Y. B. Kam. I, 2ᵇ פרשת ש׳ טמאין the section treating of the sending out of the camp of the unclean (Num. V, 1 sq.). Num. R. s. 710נתחייבו ש׳ וכ׳ they were condemned to be sent out of the camp, this means exile. Gen. R. s. 61 שטר ש׳ a document referring to the sending away of children with gifts (Gen. XXV, 6); a. fr.—Pl. שִׁילּוּחִים, שִׁילּוּחִין, שִׁלּ׳. Ḥull. l. c. קודם שִׁלּוּחֶיהָ before sending her off. Snh. 102ᵃ (ref. to Mic. I, 14) מי … תתנו ש׳ לבניו he who slew the Philistine (Goliath) and gave you Gath as a possession:—will you give a dismissal to his descendants (will you abandon the house of David)?—Esp. שִׁילּוּחִין, שִׁלּ׳banishment, exile.
