שָׁאַף II, (b. h.) = שׁוּף I, to blow, pant, long for. Midr. Till. to Ps. CXIX, 131 כמו (ש)התנינים שׁוֹאֲפִים לרוח כן הייתי שׁוֹאֵף לתורתך (not רוהך) as the monsters pant for wind, so do I pant (longing) for thy Law.
