קְנָס, (preced.) fine, penalty, esp. the fine for seducing a girl (Deut. XXII, 29). B. Kam. 38ᵇ, v. קָנס. Keth. 43ᵃ top, a. e. מודה בק׳ פטור he who confesses an act with which a fine is connected, is exempt from the fine; ib. 42ᵃ; Shebu. V, 4 אינו משלם ק׳ על פי עצמו none needs to pay a fine on his own confession (if he cannot be convicted otherwise). Keth. l. c. (in Chald. dict.) ק׳ הוי it is the case of a fine, opp. ממונא the case of a real debt or indemnity. Ib. bot. יצאו אלו שהן ק׳ exclude those cases which concern only a fine, opp. ממון. Ib. III, 1 יש להן ק׳ a fine is due for seducing them. Ib. 29ᵃ יש לה מכר ואין לה ק׳ she can be sold (by her father), and no fine is due for her seduction. Ib.
