פְּסִיעָה, (פָּסַע) step, walk. Ber. 6ᵇ, a. fr. פ׳ גסה, v. גַּס III. Gen. R. s. 39 ליתן שכר על כל פ׳ ופ׳ to reward him for every step. Koh. R. to VII, 2 ‘and the living shall take it to heart’ (ib.) זה חי העולמים … על כל פ׳ ופ׳ וכ׳ that means the Everliving who rewards man for every step he takes for deeds of charity. Pesik. R. s. 33 (ref. to Is. LI, 14) מן אדם שהוא ממהר בפְסִיעָתוֹ בשביל להיפתח וכ׳ art thou afraid of man who hastens his step to have an opening … and runs with hasty step, that he may not miss his bread?; Yalk. Is. 336; a. fr.—Pl. פְּסִיעוֹת. Yoma 53ᵇ המתפלל צריך שיפסיע שלש פ׳ לאחוריו וכ׳ he who is in prayer (when a person enters), must pass three steps backward (when he ends his prayer), and then turn around to salute. Ib. דפסעי להו שלש פ׳ בכריעה אחת they made the three steps back ward with one bow. Snh. 22ᵃ (he who loses his wife) פְּסִיעוֹתָיו מתקצרות has his steps shortened (his energies broken, with ref. to Job XVIII, 7). Sabb. 63ᵇ שהיו פְסִיעוֹתֵיהֶם גסות who used to make wide steps. Num. R. s. 4; a. fr.
