פִּיסְּתָא

פִּיסְּתָא, = פַּסָּא,
פִּיסְּתָא, פִּיסַּת ידא the hand up to the wrist; פ׳ כף רגלא the foot up to the ankle. Targ. I Kings XVIII, 44; a. e.—Yeb. 115ᵃ פ׳ דידא וכ׳ (see) the hand that lies here (of the remains of the burned husband); a. e.—Pl. פִּיסָּתָא, constr. פִּיסַּת, פִּסַּת. Targ. I Sam. V, 4. Targ. Esth. VIII, 10.
פִּיסְּתָא, piece, esp. bread (v. פִּיתָּא). Y. Ber. VI, 10ᵇ bot. בגין דאנא אכל פִּיסְּתִי … דהדין פסא וכ׳ when I eat my bread and, not knowing how to say grace, I say, blessed be he who has created this piece &c. (Bab. ib. 40ᵇ מריה דהאי פיתא). Y. Sabb. VII, end, 10ᵈ קופדה משלים לפ׳ פ׳ וכ׳ meat may serve as a complement to bread (to complete the legal size), but bread cannot serve as a complement to meat. Tanḥ. Ekeb 7, v. לִפְתּוּתָא.—Pl. פִּיסָּתָא crumbs. Y. Pes. VI, 33ᶜ צריך מבערה פ׳ must remove the crumbs.
