נָהַם (b. h.; v. נְהֵי I) to be agitated; to make a noise. Ber. 32ᵃ אין ארי נוֹהֵם וכ׳ the lion does not get excited over a heap of straw but over a heap of flesh, i.e. plenty produces haughtiness. Yalk. Jer. 277 (play on בן הֹנֹםֹ, Jer. XIX, 2) שקולו של תינוק נ̇ו̇הֵ֗ם̇ וכ׳ for the voice of the child shrieked under the fire; a. fr.
    Pi. - נִיהֵם same, esp. to cco (in love, longing &c.). Ber. 3ᵃ מְנַהֶמֶת כיונה cooing (in mourning) like a dove. Pesik. R. s. 21, a. e., v. נְהִימָה.—Midr. Till. to Ps. CVI, 9 מְנַהֵם עליהם כנהמת ים (adapted fr. Is. V, 30) he roared over them &c.; Yalk. Ps. 864 ויִנְהםֹ.
