מַרְפֶּסֶת מַרְפֶּסֶת, (preced.) a gallery or balcony to which doors of the upper compartments open, and from which steps lead down to the court. Erub. VIII, 3 אנשי מ׳ tenants that have a common gallery; ib. 83ᵇ, sq. קס"ד מאי מ׳ בני עלייה וכ׳ at first it was thought marpeseth (in Mishn. l. c.) meant the dwellers of the upper story, and they are so called, because they go up to their rooms by the way of the gallery; אותן הדרים במ׳ those who have rooms on the gallery itself.
