(banquet) exhilarating the mourner; (בֵּית) בֵּי מ׳the place of the mourners’ meal. Targ. Jer. XVI, 5.—Keth. 69ᵃ מאן יתיב בי מ׳ וכ׳ who sits at the head at mourners’ meals? expl. ib. 69ᵇ מהו מ׳ אֵבֶל (be-) marzeḥa means (house of) mourning (ref. to Jer. l. c.).
מַרְזֵחָא, (v. מַרְזוֹחַ) pl. מַרְזְחַיָּיאthose who cheer the mourners. Targ. II Esth. I, 3 ed. Frf. (v. מְסַחֲרַיָּא).—Y. Ber. III, 6ᵃ top (reprehending the excesses at mourners’ meals). לאתקבלון … למחר מ׳ (not מזרח׳) after my death do not receive today mourning (condolence) and to-morrow merry-makers.
