יִשּׁוּב, יִישּׁוּב m. (יָשַׁב) 1) settlement, inhabited land, opp. מדבר or ים; cultivation, social world, civilization; public welfare. Koh. R. to I, 15; Ruth. R. to I, 17 אם אין אדם מתקן ביי׳ וכ׳ if man does not prepare provision in the inhabited settlement (this world), what will he have to eat in the desert (the hereafter)?—Y. B. Kam.
