חֲפוּרָה ² חֲפוּרָה ², (preced.) products of the earth gained by digging, opp. to those gained by cutting; bulbs, roots &c. [Also used in Chald. phraseology.] Tosef. Ned. IV, 3 הנודר מן החפי׳ וכ׳ (Var. הפירי) if one vows abstinence from ḥăfirah, he is forbidden melons &c.; Y. ib. VII, beg. 40ᵇ האפייה (corr. acc.). Bekh. 52ᵇ ח׳ והוה שובלי (if on the father’s death) what was available of the products of the ground was classed under ḥ. (vegetable, e. g. green of grains), and now it is shublé (ears); B. Bath. 124ᵃ (Ms. M. חֲפוּרֵי והוו). Yeb. 63ᵃ מאה … מילחא וח׳ invest a hundred Zuz in land, and you will have salt and common vegetable. ערכים סמוכים
