Targ. Gen. XXXV, 17.—Y. Keth. V, 30ᵃ, v. חֲכַם. Gen. R. s. 60 (prov.) בין ח׳ למחבלתא וכ׳ between the midwife and the travailing woman, the child of the poor woman dies.—Pl. חַיָּיתָא, חַיָּ׳. Targ. Ex. I, 15.—Y. Sabb. XIII, end, 16ᶜ שאלון לח׳ ask the midwives (about their usages on the Sabbath); אמרה ליה ליכא חַיָּיא said she to him, there is no midwife (in the place).
