בִּרְיוֹן, (denom. of בִּירָה) palace-soldier, castle-guard, keeper. Ex. R. s. 30 משל לב׳ וכ׳ this is to be compared to a palace-soldier who was drunk &c.; Yalk. Esth. 1056 ללבריון (read לב׳).—Pl. בִּרְיוֹנִים, בִּירְ׳. Ex. R. l. c. ב׳ שלו וכ׳ his palace-guard sneered at his purple cloak.—בִּרְיוֹנוֹת. Mekh. B’shall., Amalek 1, העמידו עליו ב׳ קשים they appointed over him cruel guards; Tanḥ. ib. 25 עמדו עליו בריונים וכ׳ (read העמידו); Y. Kidd. I, 61ᵃ bot. בורניות (corr. acc.). Cmp. בִּירָנִית.
