שַׁתְקָאֵי, (preced.) preservers of silence (silentiarii, v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Præpositus). Ber. 58ᵃ אתא תליתאה דהוה ש׳ וכ׳ Vers. in ʿEn Yaʿăḳob (ed. כי קא שתקא) when the third division marched past, who were the silentiarii (ordering silence), he (the blind R. Shesheth) said, now the king is coming.
