שַׁפַּיי, (שְׁפֵי II) wine merchant. — Pl. שַׁפָּיִין, שַׁפָּאִין, שַׁפָּיֵיא. Lev. R. s. 12 עברון ש׳ בתרע וכ׳ wine merchants passed the gate of the cemetery; Esth. R. to II, 1 (ר׳ עזריה) ש׳ שנאון (strike out שנאון, a corrupt dittogr. of שפאין); Yalk. Prov. 960. Y. Dem.
