שְׁעוּעִית, (שעע; cmp. שַׁעֲוָה) a species of beans, prob. kidney-bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris), v. פְּסִילְתָּא, a. חֲלוּקָה. Kil. I, 1 פול הלבן והש׳ וכ׳ Y. ed. a. Ms. M. (Mish. a. Bab. ed. שעועים, corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) the white bean and the kidney-bean are not heterogeneous. Y. ib. 27ᵃ top expl. (פתילתה) פסילתא. Ib. למה שמה ש׳ שמשעשעת את הלב וכ׳ (some ed. שעשועית) why is it called sh’ʿuʿith (pasty)? Because it pastes up (dulls) the heart, and loosens the bowels.
