שְׁיָיר, (preced.) remnant, relic, survival. Num. R. s. 19³² (ref. to Deut. III, 11) וכאן עושה אותו ש׳ (ed. Wil. a. oth. שירים) and here he is represented as a survival.—Pl. שְׁיָירִים, שְׁיָרִים; du. שִׁירַיִים, שִׁירַיִם. Men. II, 1 הקומץ … שְׁיָרֶיהָ וכ׳ if a priest takes a handful of the meal-offering with the intention of eating its remnants … the next day. Ruth R. to I, 5 (ref. to ותשאר, ib.) נעשית שְׁיָרֵי שירים she became like the remnants of remnants (of the meal-offering); Yalk. ib. 600 נעשית שירים. Erub. II, 5, a. e. שבעים אמה וש׳ seventy cubits and a balance (less than eighty); Y. ib. II, 20ᵇ שריים (corr. acc.). Zeb. 52ᵃ שירי חטאת the remaining blood of the sin offering after sprinkling (Lev. IV, 34, a. e.). Ib. ש׳ אין מעכבים the pouring out of the remaining blood at the bottom of the altar is not indispensable for the efficacy of the sacrifice (v. עָכַב); Meïl. 9ᵃ ש׳ מעכבים it is indispensable; a. fr.—Men. IX, 8 סמיכה שירי מצוה the laying of hands on the victim is the last of the commendable acts, i.e. is not indispensable. Ib. 93ᵇ אם עשאה לסמיכה ש׳ מצוה if he treated the laying on of hands as dispensable (omitted it); Sifra Vayikra, N’dabah, Par. 3, ch. IV; Neg. XIV, 10; a. e.—Meg. 15ᵇ (ref. to לשאר, Is.
