Zar. 39ᵃ identifies our w. with עיזא דימא, v. עִיזָּא].—Sabb. 119ᵃ רבא מלח ש׳ Raba salted a shibbuṭa himself (for the Sabbath); Kidd. 41ᵃ. Ḥull. 109ᵇ חזיר מוחא דש׳ the swine is forbidden, and as a compensation for it the brain of the sh. serves; Lev. R. s. 22 דג ששמו ש׳. Y. Taan. IV, 69ᵇ וכשחזרו … חוץ מן הדג הנקרא ש׳ and when the Israelites returned (from the Babylonian captivity), all the animals exiled with them returned except the fish named shibbuṭa. Pes. 112ᵇ דג ש׳ ביומי דניסן of the fishes the sh. is bad for leprosy during the month of Nisan.
