שִׁטְפָא, rapidity, (cmp. שגר) rapid review in recalling a tradition. Sabb. 130ᵇ דילמא אגב שִׁיטְפָךְ רהיט וכ׳ perhaps in the rapidity of reviewing, the tradition came back to thy mind?; אין אגב ש׳ רהיטא וכ׳ (Ms. M. שִׁיטְפָאִי, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) yes, my tradition was recalled by the (my) rapid review; Nidd. 53ᵇ אגב שטפך אתיא לך; אגב שטפאי אתיא לי.
שִׁטְפָא, rush of people. Y. Sabb. XIX, beg. 16ᵈ כד תחמון ש׳ עבר וכ׳ when you see the crowd pass by, bring them (the keys) by way of the row (the lines of men forming a partition for Sabbath purposes).
שִׁטְפָא, [sweeping away, cmp. נסח, נסע,] discarding from the mind, forgetfulness. Gen. R. s. 81, v. עָקַת; Yalk. ib. 135 שִׁטּוּפָא; Tanḥ. Vayishl. 8 שמטי.
שִׁטְפָא, (v. preced. 5) hair. Lev. R. s. 15 (ref. to Job XXXVIII, 25) אית אתרין … שי׳ there are places where they call the hair shiṭfa; Yalk. ib. 554 שִׁיטְפָה.
