שָׁדַךְ, Pi. שִׁידֵּךְ (v. next w.) to negotiate, stipulate. Sabb. 150ᵃ מְשַׁדְּכִין על … ועל התינוק וכ׳ you may stipulate on the Sabbath about girls to be betrothed, and about a boy to be taught reading or a trade. Tosef. ib. XVI (XVII), 22 ואין מְשַׁדְּכִין בין וכ׳ you must not negotiate business affairs between a husband and his wife (to reconcile them) on the Sabbath. Kidd. 44ᵇ והוא ששִׁדְּכוּ provided they have been negotiating (with her father). Ib. (mixed dict.) אע"ג דשִׁידְּכוּ even if they have been negotiating.
