קְפַח ch. same , to force, overwhelm; to rob. Targ. Hos. VII, 1 קָפְחִין (not קַפָּחִין).—Y. Sabb. XX, end, 17ᵈ קְפוֹחַ קְפִיחָה rob him that has been robbed (v. צְנִינִים).
    Pa. - קַפֵּחַ same. Yoma 83ᵇ קַפְּחֵיה לרועה וכ׳ he overpowered the shepherd and ate his bread. Gen. R. s. 75, beg. שרי מְקַפֵּחַ ביה began to rob him. Gen. R. s. 87 הא … קום קַפְּחִינָהּ the she-bear is before thee, rise and overpower her, i.e. here is a temptation, conquer it. Lev. R. s. 18 לסטין אתאן למְקַפְּחָא יתי robbers are coming to rob me. Lev. R. s. 30 קַפְּחֵיה ונסב וכ׳ he overpowered him and took all he had. Ib. הב … דקַפַּחְתַּנִי give me back what thou hast robbed me of. Ib. מן כל מה דקַפְּחִית וכ׳ of all I forced (out of thee) and of all I took, this man has (I have) nothing left except this rug. Koh. R. to VII, 26 והוא נפיק ומקפח בליליא and he used to go out by night for robbery; a. fr.—Gitt. 29ᵇ קַפְּחִינְהוּ רב ספרא וכ׳ R. Safra got the better of three ordained rabbis; קפחינהו … בטעותא R. S. got the better of …, by showing them their mistake.
