קִילּוּס II, קִלּ׳ m. (קָלַס) 1) praise. Gen. R. s. 78 הגיע זמן קִילּוּסִי לקלס וכ׳ my turn has come to give praise &c. Y. Succ. V, 55ᵇ bot. ולקִילּוּסָן הוא צריך is he in need of their praise? Ib. חביב קילוסן של ישראל וכ׳ (not קילוסין) Israel’s praise (of the Lord) is preferred to &c. Lev. R. s. 5, end (ref. to Ps. XIX) בתחלה משורר בק׳ he begins by singing praise. Ex. R. s. 15 הכל נותנין לי ק׳ all will do me homage; a. fr.—Pl. קִילּוּסִין, קִלּ׳. Y. Succ. l. c. אע"פ שיש לפניו כמה ק׳ וכ׳ although there are before him many praises (Dan. VII, 10), yet Israel’s praise &c., v. supra. Y. Pes. VIII, 36ᵇ; Y. M. Kat. I, 80ᵈ top מהו דברים … ק׳ what words?… praises (of the departed whose bones are collected). Y. Sabb. XVI, 15ᶜ bot. כל הק׳ שישראל מקלסין וכ׳ all the praises which Israel offers to the Lord (the psalms) correspond in number to the years of Jacob’s life; Treat. Sof’rim XVI, 11. Y. R. Hash. IV, 59ᶜ עשרה ק׳ וכ׳ ten praises (Halleluiahs) which David spoke (Bab. ib. 32ᵃ הילולים); a. fr.—[Gen. R. s. 5 נעשה ק׳ להקב"ה, v. קְלִוְוסִין.—Yalk. Deut. 885 בקלוסין, read: בקולסין, v. קוֹלָס.] —2) making noise, tramping, clapping. M. Kat. 27ᵇ ק׳ ברגל ḳillus is done with the foot; Tosef. ib. II, 17 ק׳ זה פישוט וכ׳ (not קילום) ḳillus is stretching out the arms (and clapping), contrad to טיפוח. Gen. R. s. 84; Yalk. ib. 142 בק׳ היה בא he (Joseph) came with noise (cheer).
