צָפַד, to be pressed; to cleave. Pesik. R. s. 37, beg. וצ׳ עורך על עצמך וכ׳ thy skin was cleaving to thy bones, and thy body was as dry &c.
צָפַד, to press, contract. Y. Yeb. XVI, 15ᵈ top [read:] והכירוהו שצְפַדְתּוֹ הצינה (Var. שצרפתו) they identified the drowned man, for the cold had contracted him (preserved his features). Y. Pes. II, end, 29ᶜ החומץ צוֹפְדָן vinegar contracts them (Bab. ib. 40ᵃ צומתן), v. צָמַת. Y. Ter. X, beg. 47ᵃ עדשים צוֹפְדוֹת אותו שלא יבלע the thick mass of lentils presses it (the onion) so that it cannot absorb (the taste of the lentil water); שלא יתן so that it cannot communicate its taste; ib. IX, beg. 46ᶜ צופרות (corr. acc.).
