צוּצִיתָא f. (צִיץ ch.; of נֵץ a. נִיצוֹץ) 1) צ׳ דנורא ray of light. B. Bath. 73ᵃ; Yalk. Is. 337; Yalk. Jer. 276 צ׳ דנ׳ חוורתי a ray of whitish light. Taan. 25ᵃ נפיק צ׳ דנ׳ וכ׳ a ray of light proceeded from his forehead; (Ms. M. also צָצוּתָא). Sabb. 56ᵇ נתן דצ׳ Nathan ‘with the ray of light’ (a repentant sinner with a halo; oth. opin. whom an angel seized by his forelock, v. infra, afterwards known as (Mar) Ukba, the Resh Galutha; v. Rashi to Snh. 31ᵇ). —2) forelock. Men. 42ᵃ וצריך לפורדה כי צ׳ וכ׳ (Ms. R. 2, a. Rashi צִיצִי׳) he must separate it (the show-fringe) like the forelock of the gentiles; Yalk. Num. 750 ציצו׳. —3) tail of a mouse. Sabb. 121ᵇ נקוטו בצוּצִיתֵיה ואפקוה (not ואפקיה) take it by its tail and carry it out; Bets. 36ᵇ (corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 50).
